This project is designed to aide captive reptiles and amphibians by removing them from keepers who no longer have the means, ability, or desire to care for them and placing them with keepers or institutions that have the means, ability, and desire to provide proper care for the animals.

Animals are taken in, as space allows, by the society and housed temporary with members while long term situations can be found. Adoption preference is given to educational facilities and TSHS members.

Special attention is paid to state laws as the laws of our three state service area are very different. Every effort is made to transport and house animals in accordance with state laws.

• All exotic venomous snakes are immediately transferred to Jungle Adventures in Bristol, VA. The state of VA allows for the keeping of exotic venomous and Jungle Adventures does educational work within the community.
• All crocodilians, save American Alligators, are immediately transferred to a TSHS keeper in the state of AL while a long term situation can be located. The state of AL allows for the legal husbandry of all crocodilian species other then American Alligators.
• We currently have no facility set up to legally house American Alligators with short term notice. Any relinquished Alligators will be released to the DNR of the state from which we receive them.
• Any endangered species will be immediately released to Federal Wildlife Enforcement located in Nashville, TN.
